Seismic shifts. Not only in the Cycladics (where they experienced a flurry this week), but of the geopolitical sort as well. Trump’s ‘offer’ to make Canada the 51st state seemed comical the first time he said it, but it quickly became obvious it was not intended as a joke nor as an invitation for that matter. When you look at the planet from the top down, it’s pretty clear to see how many parties, in addition to Canada itself, may have an interest in keeping Canada Canada. Actually, why not join the EU? Other than proximity, we have stronger ties to the UK (which is, let’s face it, still Europe, if not the EU) than with the our bully neighbour next door. (Note: Though the American WordPress spell check doesn’t realize it, we spell neighbour like the Brits, not like the Americans.)
